Masked killer, standardized massacre of

La Prof Dell' Horror

I didn't have high expectations for this shot, and I must say that the beginning generated in me the curiosity of a dormouse about to go into hibernation. One eye on the screen, and the other fixed on the PC, dealing with futile matters; the characters just didn't manage to impress me, quite predictable dialogues, a long dull opening, and a certain boredom here and there, until, finally, something new arrives. (Not even that much, we knew that sooner or later someone would die, it's still a horror). I therefore abandon my social duties, anxiously waiting for the little Swedes to be decimated in disparate and not at all trivial ways. Here my gore palate remains quite satisfied, since there are enough crimes, seasoned with a bit of healthy dementia. However, despite offering a handful of bloody kills, it lacks that subtle bite, which ties everything back to yet another rather disappointing missed opportunity. Speaking of the plot, there is nothing particularly elaborate, and the serial killer is the classic stereotypical avenger. A group of colleagues are sent on a camping mission, to socialize and lay the foundation stone of a shopping center that will bring significant improvements to a mountain resort. However, not everyone has benefited from it, there are those who have lost land, and those who have lost it. There will be no spicy shots and exposed breasts among horny young people, on the contrary, the only hot moment of the slasher will be expressed by Adam Lundgren, who in the role of a solid careerist, will not hesitate to put himself in plain sight in front of Lina, played by Katia Winter. The girl will not show any interest in Jonas's beautiful backside, and the other charms, which fortunately were not shown to us spectators (I admit, this scene amused me a lot). The Swede Patrick Eklund is anything but naive (Oscar nominee and winner of several festivals) and in 2023 he directs this “Il Convegno”, a film that I wouldn't have given two cents to and which instead turns out to be a decent surprise. There is nothing particularly astonishing, from the script to the performances, but this slasher is still professionally shot and manages to entertain a wider audience than the typical circle of horror fans. The film struggles to get going but starting from the first murder it picks up the right cruising speed and allows you to have fun without falling into the banal or illogical. Obviously the clichés are always present but they don't disturb that much and, all things considered, you end up loving some characters (one above all the old man with the beard). I believe I have to judge the film not for its belonging to the slasher genre (obviously it will never become a reference in the sector) but because it manages to entertain with careful and never over the top direction: recommended for an evening without fear or scares.
