The Witch (2015) is a masterpiece of the horror genre that stands out for its disturbing atmosphere and deep psychological introspection. Directed by Robert Eggers, the film transports viewers to 1630, in a Puritan New England, where a family of settlers lives in isolation on the edge of a dark and mysterious forest. One of the most extraordinary qualities of "The Witch" is its ability to evoke a sense of authentic fear through historical context and psychological tension, rather than resorting to jump scares or gratuitous gore. The historical reconstruction is impeccable, with dialogues taken from texts of the time that give a disturbing realism, transporting the audience to an era in which superstition and faith mix in a disturbing way. The performances of the actors, in particular that of Anya Taylor- Joy as Thomasin, they are exceptional. His transformation from innocent youth to tragic figure is palpable and engaging. Each member of the family is beautifully characterized, revealing the frailties and internal tensions that lead them to a tragic fate. The cinematography is another of the film's great strengths. The grainy shots and soft lights create an oppressive atmosphere, while the natural landscape becomes a character in its own right, a symbol of threat and mystery. The forest, with its shadows and whispers, represents chaos and the unknown, creating a palpable tension that intensifies as the story progresses. The soundtrack, with its eerie sounds and dissonant melodies, helps create a 'added layer of anxiety. Each note seems to reflect the family's growing sense of paranoia and desperation, accentuating the progression towards the final climax. In summary, "The Witch" is a film that not only scares, but invites reflection on family dynamics, faith and collective hysteria. It is an artistic work that manages to combine horror and emotional depth, leaving Read all

Yes THE WITCH is a really beautiful movie! Very beautiful screenplay and scenography. A family with 3 children, mom and dad get expelled from its community and moves away to find luck elsewhere. It finds only darkness instead: this simple but bigot family, of good Christians gets persecuted by dark forces, invisible to it, forces becoming, with the scenes passing, heavier and heavier upon the family itself. The desperation is palpable and the confusion among the characters grows higher and higher. The feeling of an unknown dark presence around them, in this far inland, starts with the inexplicable disappearance of the smallest of the young ones, just a new born baby, in front of the incredulous eyes of the eldest sister. It seems that a shortly appearing old witch is the EVIL upon them, of which they are unaware.Watching these unlucky sad events in progress can only give sadness to us, since it brings into mind the idea of an UNJUST BAD unfairly oppressing the purity of simple religious farmers just trying to survive in the wild inland. Well, it is EVIL right? What EVIL would be otherwise, if it would not persecute them, so pure and so lovely? The killing of the girl's family is not violent and it is ineluctable and necessary to give a new fresh start to the young girl future; and here it comes the voice of the evil, the black billygoat, to lead her way to her new life: with softness, whispering her, its voice is warm, good enough to corrupt and persuade her to become a new witch, a new follower of its magic circle. New young witches substitute the old one in a celebrating final rite: a nude dancing in a magic powerful circle is the last scene of this enchanting and Read all

I've watched this movie a couple of times now, and it still stays with me every day. The tone and imagery really got under my skin and stuck in my mind like no other film has in a long time. Initially, I expected a typical horror movie with all the usual clichés and obvious jump scares, but instead, I was treated to ninety minutes of subtle, intelligent horror. The atmosphere is intense, moody, and incredibly well-crafted, with stunning visuals, beautiful scenery, and impressive costumes. The story unfolds in a clever way, and when I think of witches, this is exactly the kind of portrayal that comes to mind—much more unique than the usual approach. You're never quite sure what's coming next or who the true villain is. Movies like this don't come along often. There's real passion behind it, driven by a talented, ambitious director. I'm truly impressed and hope to see a long, successful career ahead of him!!! 👏👏👏👏👏 Read all
