Yes THE WITCH is a really beautiful movie! Very beautiful screenplay and scenography.

A family with 3 children, mom and dad get expelled by its community and moves away to find luck elsewhere. It finds only darkness instead: this simple but bigot family, of good Christians gets persecuted by dark forces, invisible to it, forces becoming, with the scenes passing, heavier and heavier upon the family itself. The desperation is palpable and the confusion among the characters grows higher and higher. The feeling of an unknown dark presence around them, in this far inland, starts with the inexplicable disappearance of the smallest of the young ones, just a new born baby, in front of the incredulous eyes of the eldest sister. It seems that a shortly appearing old witch is the EVIL upon them, of which they are unaware.

Watching these unlucky sad events in progress can only give sadness to us, since it brings into mind the idea of an UNJUST BAD unfairly oppressing the purity of simple religious farmers just trying to survive in the wild inland. Well, it is EVIL right? What EVIL would be otherwise, if it would not persecute them, so pure and so lovely?

The killing of the girl's family is not violent and it is ineluctable and necessary to give a new fresh start to the young girl future; and here it comes the voice of the evil, the black billygoat, to lead her way to her new life: with softness, whispering her, its voice is warm, good enough to corrupt and persuade her to become a new witch, a new follower of its magic circle. New young witches substitute the old one in a celebrating final rite: a nude dancing in a magic powerful circle is the last scene of this enchanting and bewitching dark and poetic tale.
