A hermetically fascinating experience

“Starfish” is one of those films that are not easily forgotten.

Emotionally intense, mysteriously fascinating but decidedly cryptic, the work of English director/musician A.T. White definitely leaves his mark.

Although it relies almost exclusively on the excellent performance of Virginia Gardner, the film does not focus on a single person but embraces a much broader context.

The story begins with Aubrey (Gardner) going to the funeral of her best friend Grace; for her it is a pain that is difficult to bear because they shared many years of their lives together and their relationship probably went beyond friendship.

In the evening, after the funeral, Aubrey goes to the apartment of friend, either to remember many moments spent together, or to better metabolize her absence.

While snooping through Grace's things, she discovers some music cassettes which she begins to listen to; it's late at night when Aubrey falls asleep but when she wakes up the next morning everything seems to have changed.

The place is full of snow and there seems to be no one, absolutely no one…
