Fun horror fantasy with 60s-70s kaiju style monsters, i.e. rubbery suits worn by people.

The film works for what it is, an asteroid is impacting the Earth and via an expedition to explode the threat you come into contact with this strange substance and form of life and see that accidentally brought inside the space station, it will grow and multiply, generating panic, attacks and some victims.

The creature, the Green Slime is well made, it is clearly puppet-like and rubbery but for those who love these films it is nice to see these rubber monsters in action, in costume with their tentacles attacking the space base.

Directing together with Taguchi there is also Fukasaku, the director of the grandiose Battle Royale, in fact there are still well-constructed shots, the Slimes advancing through the corridors, the excellent scene where once the door is opened you see the dead doctor with the Slimes behind him its effect.
Also good is the idea of often showing events via monitors, the Slimes attacking the top of the space station and the beautiful scene of the Slimes playing which is really good.
The green creatures they feed and proliferate with energy, watching the film today you can easily read a criticism of man's enormous consumption of energy.

Furthermore, the film is from '68, not a random year , we know well the context of those years, student revolts, Vietnam and in fact the film takes a strong look at human life, the orders from above that put the men of the mission in danger without taking people's safety into account.
Therefore the clash of views between the two commanders, Rankin and Elliot, the first is a strict executor of orders who has no problem sacrificing lives if this is to be done for the general good of the mission, while Elliot gives everything, even if himself, to save even just a single life, even by disobeying orders.

A genre film that knows how to entertain, there are monsters in action that cause destruction and that also sends messages that are in line with the times , therefore a certain anti-militarism, importance is given to human life but also an important criticism nowadays on energy-intensive humanity.
