Although not original, it is a film that starts with an interesting premise, where even in the first shot we see our protagonist sitting framed distantly from the family, immediately making it clear that there are problems.
It's a film that recalls Basket Case and body horror, and from this point of view it works, it's true that you notice there isn't who knows what kind of construction of tension, every now and then some nasty jump scares, but the sequence of the "double" on the bed works and you notice in general the moments where the direction is aware to the detriment of other more "scholastic" moments. and also the direction, which as written at the beginning and in the body horror moments also demonstrates a certain hand, rests a bit on television standards.
Some dialogues are a bit too much and the boy's character certainly does not stand out and his relationship with the protagonist, especially what happens in the end, is not so decisive.
The Babadook is also present in the film for a certain management of the double and for the "connection" that this has with the 'guest, in fact, traumas, anxieties, fears remain inside people, they can be controlled but not erased.
The ending, not surprisingly, is reminiscent of the Babadook and it is there that the direction together with the photography brings out new life with an excellent final shot.
It is a film that therefore has something to say, it also shows flashes of ideas but which one notices derives from a short film and its pace is not always managed in the best way, certainly not very bad, indeed even for the body horror matrix one doesn't want to dislike it but it wasn't completely successful.
In any case the director Anna Zlokovic is worth keeping an eye on for her future films.
