Bastard movie "X". Ty West takes all the time he wants to talk to you softly about the passing of time, the implacably advancing old age, the changing world. And then comes the butcher's shop, quick, truculent and surprisingly elegant. Well done Ty, after that filthy filth of The Sacrament, when many thought you were finished, you produced a horror film with personality, destined for a place in the annals. Mia Goth absolute queen. Ti West's new film is all contained in its incipit. A shot with a square format, rounded at the corners, like the images of porn shot by the protagonists of the story. Slowly the camera advances and the image widens revealing the trick , the camera was filming everything from inside a barn and the black bands on the sides were, in reality, the walls of the door. Metacinema, some would say. Except that Ti West doesn't need to concoct who knows what theoretical discourses on cinema or explain his intentions, his messages and his metaphors. He entrusts himself, as an experienced director, to the cinema itself, letting the form convey the meaning. Once again at the center of everything there is a tribute. If in The house of devil (2009) the point of reference was the 80s, in perfect, to that type of cinema of which it proposes all the salient characteristics. In other words, in to show off, in full evidence, the clichés of the genre.
