Review of  Emiliano Baglio Emiliano Baglio
Sandra (Marion Cotillard) has two days and one night to convince her work colleagues to give up a production bonus of 1,000 euros and thus avoid her dismissal. The protagonist of the new film by the Dardenne brothers makes a scandalous gesture, asking for help, and this act forces the people with whom she comes into contact to question themselves. Sara's colleagues find themselves having to choose whether to put human relationships and the bonds of solidarity and brotherhood at the center of their lives rather than power relationships based on money. What interests the two directors/screenwriters is not the final outcome, i.e. whether Sandra will keep her job, also because, being a realist film and not a silly Hollywood production, it is quite obvious to understand how it will end. The focus of the film is rather the process itself triggered by Sandra's request. Two Days, One Night thus presents itself as yet another piece of an ethical and moral but never moralistic cinema. Once again the Dardennes choose to question the viewer rather than provide easy answers, which among other things do not exist, at least on a universal level. They do all this using the expressive means that have always characterized their aesthetics. Hand-held camera that follows the characters, physically standing on top of them, almost in a claustrophobic manner, following them and often hugging their bodies and faces. Dialogues reduced to the bare bones and which, in this case, are repeated with minimal variations given that the words used by Sandra are practically always the same. They introduce only minimal variations, such as the use of music in two moments of the film and at times they risk slipping into banal and obvious solutions such as in the xanax scene (those who see the film will understand). The biggest risk is Read all
