The fear of natural disasters has always been present for me, watching films like this has always helped me to exorcise this fear, but also because it is driven by the passion for films with a strong visual impact and finally, for the strong emotional component seen which, while on the one hand yes, are films with special effects to the nth degree, they also offer a look at scenarios which today, more than in the past, are not that far from reality. I think Twister (1996) is a disaster movie which struck me the most, for the story it tells but also for the visual authenticity, I have always found it to be the least constructed, the least "artificial" of the films of the genre. I therefore took courage in watching this new version, not only because I already knew that no one could replace Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton today, but because I was sure that it would be a poorly done copy of the original, because that was more or less how it had been presented. I'm happy to be able to say that the homage is there but minimal, I would define it as a stand-alone, not a remake, not a reboot but not even a sequel... it's a bit of a hybrid if you like. The protagonists do not imitate anyone, because they do not take up roles already played and this is also a plus. Twisters tells of a group of young tornado researchers searching for a chemical formula that can contain the devastating force of natural phenomena. During a devastating typhoon, the team led by Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar Jones) suffers major losses. The film starts again 5 years after the tragedy, with Kate, who has meanwhile become a meteorologist in New York and agrees to help Javi (Anthony Ramos), another survivor of the tragedy, who asks to return to the field with him and start again from where they left off. The movie kicks off with an insane tornado scene that sets the whole vibe, showing off the storm's epic scale and destruction in crazy detail. Kate Carter coming back to the plains really amps up the story, showing her personal stakes and the clash between her past and present. Tyler Owens trying to livestream a tornado chase goes haywire, mixing real danger with social media madness for a wild, memorable moment. The way multiple storm systems come together over central Oklahoma is visually stunning and gives some of the film's most intense moments. The final showdown between Kate and Tyler's teams wraps up their rivalry in a super exciting and satisfying way.
