"True Detective", a TV series (currently in its fourth season), which has won all the possible awards and which constitutes a real point of reference for absolutely non-television but shamelessly cinematic writing. A project entirely created by Nic Pizzolato who will become a celebrity with this series and who will later write the other three seasons. The first, unforgettable, season, directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga (director of “No Time to Die”), features a duo that will remain in the history of “series” as protagonists: Woody Harrelson in the role of detective Marty Hart and Matthew McConaughey in by Detective Rust Cohle. If Harrelson, a highly experienced actor, proves to fit perfectly into the role by becoming the perfect sidekick, Matthew McConaughey probably gives the best performance by an actor in a television series, a performance that should be rewarded with an Oscar but he does not deal with products television: his Rust Cohle will forever remain in television history for the depth and versatility of the character of the detective lost in his paranoia and yet so attentive and perceptive. Pizzolato's screenplay is practically perfect: a sort of pendulum between two years, 1995 and 2012, an investigation concerning the murder case of a girl (1995) which, progressively, evolves into an internal police investigation into the two detectives who managed to solve the case (2012) and, in this continuous alternation, we can never understand what really happened.
