Rafael (Rickson Tevez) and Gardo (Luis Eduardo) live in one of the many landfills in Rio de Janeiro. One day they find a wallet in the garbage and immediately understand that their lives are about to change. In fact, the police soon arrive and promise a reward for anyone who finds him. But why is Federico (Selton Mello), the violent and corrupt police chief, so interested in that object? And who is José Angelo (Wagner Moura), the mysterious owner of the wallet? Rafael and Gardo, together with their friend Rato (Gabriel Weinstein) decide to get to the bottom of the matter. They will be helped by Father Julliard (Martin Sheen) and his assistant Olivia (Rooney Mara). They will soon find themselves entangled in an intricate story of (a lot of) money, politics and bribes. A story that could put the mayoral candidate out of action forever and definitively change the face of Rio. As long as they manage to survive. "Trash" is the work you would never expect from Stephen Daldry, director of films such as "Billy Elliot", "The hours" or "The reader". "Trash" is first and foremost an adrenaline-filled action film, tense, fast, dry and sharp like the gripping Brazilian hip-hop-based soundtrack that accompanies it. It opens with a close-up of Rafael who is about to shoot someone and from that moment on he never stops, dragging the viewer into a continuous whirlwind of twists, perhaps some even forced and not very credible, in which the pace never lets up. The three talented child protagonists are constantly fleeing, through Rio's landfills, the station basements, the sewers, the favelas; up to the seafront and the rich neighborhoods.
