Based on the novel of the same name by Eshkol Nevo, the film tells the story of three families who live in an apartment building, and how their lives are turned upside down by a series of tragic events. Unlike the book, the film is not initially divided into three parts, each of which follows the story of a different family, but the events immediately intertwine in a narrative unicum. Moretti is a master in staging fragility and contradictions of human beings, showing how even the most insignificant gestures can have devastating consequences. There are, however, some aspects in which the film is not entirely convincing. First of all, the relationship between Lucio and Sara, with the latter suffering her husband's impetuosity without ever really seeming annoyed or showing emotion. And what about Dora, forced to choose between her husband and her son, who denies himself for many years and in the end seems to "forgive" her mother, for no real reason. In short, an ensemble film, well acted and directed, which however sometimes lacks coherence in the screenplay (and to say that it started from an almost perfect book).Read all
