Among the “Prison Movies”, one of the most introspective of

I would devour all the Prison Movies, as well as all the Zombie Films or films shot in a single location. I loved "The Castle" with Gandolfini and Redford. The Wings of Freedom, unlike many, doesn't just focus on "I have to escape from this damn cell". But he analyses, in the confusing silence of a prison, the time allowed by detention to take stock of his life. It analyzes human relationships between "similars" who know they have made mistakes, but who ultimately believe they are just as good as the people outside those walls. If you love Prison Movies, watch it. If you love Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins, you can't miss it. Otherwise... you have to watch it anyway! Read all

A heritage of humanity of

It's incredible how Frank Darabont, in his first directorial career, was able to create a masterpiece of such stature as this wonderful film (masterfully written by Darabont himself). The ingredients of this success were, certainly, also the formidable cast (Robbins and Freeman) and a wonderful soundtrack by Thomas Newman. The film underlines the overall benign and compassionate nature of humanity, telling the story with great clarity and with excellent dramatic tension. There are those who say that we are faced with the best film of all time. I'm not very convinced of this, but without a doubt, in my opinion, it occupies a deserved place in the top 10. It's a film capable of giving you deep emotions and lifting your spirit in the darkest moments and for this reason a heritage of world cinematography and (dare I say) humanity tout court. Read all

plot

Framed in the 1940s for the double murder of his wife and her lover, upstanding banker Andy Dufresne begins a new life at the Shawshank prison, where he puts his accounting skills to work for an amoral warden. During his long stretch in prison, Dufresne comes to be admired by the other inmates -- including an older prisoner named Red -- for his integrity and unquenchable sense of hope.
