After the excellent performance of "Exam", 8 years passed before the British Stuart Hazeldine concluded his second performance "The Shack". If the debut work was his entire creation (direction, screenplay and production), this second film is the cinematic adaptation of the novel by Canadian writer William Paul Young obviously entitled “The Shack” which was self-published by the writer in 2007 and managed to sell a million copies after just a year. Young wrote the novel only for his family (it was a Christmas present for his children) and very few close relatives managed to read it (only 15 copies were printed); after even his closest friends read it, they pushed the author to publish it through a publisher but every attempt was in vain: dozens of publishing houses refused to publish it. Annoyed, his friends founded a publishing house themselves (Windblown Media), starting publication and distribution: the result was extraordinary! The novel impressed Hazeldine so much that he worked hard to put Young's extraordinary story on the big screen. Thanks to the distribution of Lionsgate, the film managed to achieve considerable success (close to $100 million in grosses) compared to the production costs and certainly part of this small and unexpected success came from the presence of actors of the caliber of Octavia Spencer ( Oscar in 2011 for best supporting actress), Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation, Avatar, Clash of the Titans, The Debt, 40 Carats and others) and Radha Mitchell (Pitch Black, Neverland, Silent Hill). After suffering a family tragedy, Mack Phillips spirals into a deep depression causing him to question his innermost beliefs.
