How difficult is it to win the challenge of bringing to TV a comic series that is much loved - and therefore has extremely demanding fans - and is complex and profound - and therefore risky to bring to the general public? A lot, but sometimes you can do it. And The Sandman does an excellent job in recreating live the first two volumes of the story of Dream, king of the Land of Dreams where we all go to sleep, updating the original material as much as necessary more than in the stories - obviously simplified, but only enough so as not to distance viewers who are not familiar with the volumes from a medium - television - which by its nature forces a quicker enjoyment - and in the tones, with the choice to completely separate itself from the DC continuity and to tone down the horror component that was present above all in the first volume. The cast is spot on, even in the most controversial choices - with an extraordinary Christie and a simply perfect Lord Morpheus. It does have one flaw, however : It's too short. :-) Read all

Based on the work of Neil Gaiman (involved in the transposition operation), it is a visually fascinating but narratively fluctuating series with a protagonist (Dream) whose hieratic and detached attitude tends to produce the same effect in the viewer (or at least in myself) .If you want to try your hand at Gaiman, better American Gods, whose first season was truly of great impact.
