Review of  Ignazio Venzano Ignazio Venzano
1950s, Catholic Ireland, anyone who is pregnant and without a husband causes scandal. Especially since at some point everyone knows who the father is. Except that the woman doesn't love him, it was her mistake once; not being able to think of a union of love, she is not even available for a union of appearance. The situation is fragile, everyone in the town is talking about it, of course even the priest in church. Then a small troupe of wanderers arrives in the village, perhaps there is also at least one who is attracted to the girl, understands what is happening, perhaps really falls in love. Relatively original film, which can be seen with some interest also because until the end we don't really know if the rejected father (and moreover in the police) is able to contain himself. Especially since we are close to the border with Northern Ireland and there is also a lot of smuggling of liquor and other things. Read all

plot

A young woman, Tara Maguire (Robin Wright) scandalizes her provincial Irish village in the 1950s by having a baby out of a wedlock, and refusing to name the father. She has a rare beauty and every man in town desires her, especially Sergeant Hegarty (Albert Finney). The arrival of a dramatic troupe stirs things up even more, especially when she falls in love with one f the "Playboys", Tom Casey (Aidan Quinn).
