This is certainly one of the most appropriate historical moments to release an over-the-top feature film with a culinary scenario. An undoubtedly risky script, far too imaginative, perhaps a little bizarre, but never boring. A brilliant idea, which enhances the flavors of exotic dishes and mixes them expertly with the madness of an artist at the height of his creative flair, but close to a massive nervous breakdown. Ralph Fiennes masterfully underlines the stress and tension of those who yearn for glory, and in the name of success, he does not admit mistakes and in order to follow the right path, he is willing to give up everything, reaching madness. Although static in some expressions, the gastronome Julian manages to emanate and inspire fear, and between one recipe and another, without hesitation and any shame, he unleashes reckless twists and a good dose of terror. With forks, knives, "yes Chef!", and stopwatches in hand, the imaginative Julian chooses bizarre, rare and appetizing ingredients. Diners are captivated and amazed by such captivating creations. Everyone, except Margot, played by the excellent Anya Taylor-Joy. The girl turns out to be an unscheduled guest, a last minute substitution, given that to be able to participate in such a particular event, there needs to be at least two of you. Her remarks quickly get her noticed, and her lack of enthusiasm is not lost on the protagonist, who resents her attitude and identifies her as a dangerous antagonist. The companion makes no secret of her disappointment at the meager dishes, suitable for models nibbling with narrow mouths, the triumph of conceptual cuisine, the meager, frugal meal, the expensive workmanship, the unfair fasting. Pleasant sarcasm towards a spectacularization of something that should be in the final, just a tasty nourishment, savored in an imperial environment, in the name of fun. Here, however, there is not much to cheer about. Sin Read all

Culinary films are a real subgenre, which is expressed in various ways and which constitutes a metaphor for today (the kitchen and the restaurant as microcosms that represent society). In this case we are halfway between the thriller psychological and black comedy; an interesting dish (but, like those in the film, more cerebral than appetizing; and at the end you want a cheeseburger...)
