Personally, the only Disney's Live action movies I liked were Cinderella and Cruella. There have been several versions of the first, but the Kenneth Branagh version is really well done, Cruella is brilliant and well acted, fantastic soundtrack and spectacular costumes. But the Little Mermaid has always held a special place in my heart as it is the Disney cartoon I love most, so I had high expectations and in my heart I hoped they would decide not to make a live action version of it. After seeing it, I have quite mixed feelings, because although many things are identical, including jokes, beautiful songs and many small details... much is different, like the addition of songs which certainly benefit both the rhythm of the film and the the skill of the actors stands out. I really appreciated the interpretation of Melissa McCarthy and her Ursula, but the protagonists didn't convince me much. In short, it seems like a small soup to me, with lots of little twists here and there. Not great, but good. Read all

plot

The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. With mermaids forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
