Acting
A film that had escaped me, which could have had all the makings of a powerful legal thriller, but which instead was only half convincing. The strength of the film lies entirely in the hands of Gene Hackman, who is masterful to say the least!! We are in the state of Mississippi: Sam Cayhall, an irreducible racist, imprisoned awaiting execution for the murder of two black children in 1967, receives a visit from a young lawyer (Chris O'Donnel) who tries to reopen the process. The investigations, however, will force the young lawyer to come to terms with his family's terrible past. Grisham's novel will probably have a more fast-paced pace, which the film lacks. We can see O'Donnel's inexperience, dealing with an important, important role, but let's say that it wasn't his moment yet, especially when you contrast him with a monster of talent like Hackman. He definitely needs to be seen, but there is something missing and unfortunately, it shows. Read all
