I was awaiting with some curiosity the latest work by Benjamin Caron, an English director of good abilities, and knowing that A24 would produce the new film gave me some reasonable guarantees of quality. Caron began to gain notoriety in 2017 by directing the final, phantasmagorical episode of “Sherlock”, the excellent series starring Cumberbatch and Freeman; as if that wasn't enough, he also directs several episodes of the series "The Crown" but, even more so, in 2022 he directs three episodes of "Andor", the only true series that contains the original spirit of the Star Wars saga. After a year and a half of silence, “Sharper” is released, a thriller characterized by the presence of excellent actors such as the ever green Julianne Moore, the very expert John Lightgow, the “Winter Soldier” Sebastian Stam, the, for me, unknown Briana Middleton and the young Justice Smith. It is a film that seems to be structured in episodes starring the four main characters, Tom (Smith), Sandra (Middleton), Max (Stam) and Madeleine (Moore), but essentially the narrative intersects perfectly without time jumps and/or or holes. The story is a continuous succession of surprises because, in "Sharper", nothing is as it seems and this sentence must be understood literally. The spectator will continuously change his opinion on the various characters depending on the events he witnesses and in this general chaos he will not be able to understand where the boundary lies between truth and lies, between the good and the bad. Sometimes the viewer will side with a character, then hate him immediately afterwards: this is “Sharper”. This time too Caron managed to hit the target. Read all
