Wes Craven, one of the founding fathers of modern horror, creator of the Nightmare series and Freddy Krueger, tries to launch a new saga... And he succeeds. He tries to create a new genre and mood that mocks previous horror films, accusing them of following simple pre-established rules, he reveals them to us, and plays with them to deceive characters and spectators. Because Craven is well aware that the horror audience is very attentive and prepared and therefore he makes fun of it. The protagonists of the film could be precisely those spectators sitting in the theater. Same acquaintances, same end... Or maybe not? A satire that gradually moves on to the cartoonish assault journalism, once typical American and now also on our screens, but exonerates cinema with an iconic phrase: 'films don't they give birth to new crazy people, they just make them more creative.' Man is now obsessed with celebrity to be achieved at any cost. Craven knows all the mechanisms of fear well and with a dynamic and rhythmic direction he drags us into this waking nightmare without sparing a final twist that silences any possibility of lack of narrative coherence.
