the war in Yugoslavia and in particular the Srebenica massacre are themes and events that I know very well; perhaps as a news/political fact it is second only to the State/Mafia Negotiation. I chased this film and the expectations were perhaps too high, so the vision was a little lacking in the wait for the event that never arrives. In reality, the film contains everything that needed to be there and the performances perfectly represent the souls, moods, characters and weaknesses of the protagonists. The inadequacy of the Dutch contingent, the weakness of their commander, contrasted with the determination and political/communicative flair of the leader of the Serbian army, are perfectly represented. The escalation of events is enhanced by the increasingly visible anxiety in "Aida", first pragmatic, then determined, then confused, finally desperate... A war waged between colleagues, friends, schoolmates, condominiums. A madness that in the end is highlighted even more with the massacre in the gym/cinema with the boys playing football alongside, then with the final post where everything returns to "normality" in a society that has necessarily had to move forward. The film thrives on staging, it is not didactic, but it lacks what the story is. Bosnia, July 1995. Aida is a translator for the UN in the small town of Srebrenica. When the Serbian army takes over the town, her family is among the thousands of citizens looking for shelter in the UN camp. As an insider to the negotiations Aida has access to crucial information that she needs to interpret. What is at the horizon for her family and people – rescue or death? Which move should she take?
