A poignant film, as is the search for survival carried out in the face of an impossible love by Alexander (Pierfrancesco Favino), who has a boulder in his heart and a foot entangled in his imagination; who witnesses the mortification of the most tender feeling that can blossom in this life; which is expressed mainly through a "not", a perfect defense mechanism to distance oneself from what one's heart wants. We are not, if we don't choose we are not... It doesn't pass. The pain doesn't go away... Not having acted at the right time. There has never been a right time... We can't do anything about it... I can't explain what I want. The scenes linked to childhood are suggestive, even if the transitions from the past to the present and vice versa did not always appear fluid. The interpretation by the two protagonists is intense, a lot of romanticism in their looks and in those thoughts that never stop seeking each other. The sense of impossibility prevails throughout the film, plunging the spectator into the darkness of a tremendous and irrational love: unfinished gestures, missed kisses, expectations, dreams, an unlived experience and that anxiety to realize it that paralyzes and ties the soul in double knots to a shadow, to other possible lives. The secret of life, the film seems to tell us, is often precisely in the charm of a desire that remains hidden in a corner of the heart and in that nostalgia which, however, manages to be saving for the spectator, because it urges him to live the hic and now, without waiting too long for a perfect life to be happy (that's life. plot

When Alexander and Laura meet during a party what they feel for each other is obvious, but she’s about to get married and Alexander shares a daughter with his beautiful wife. Thanks in part to the support of his lifelong friends, Alexander's childhood memories constantly resurface, leading him to reflect on what was, what will be, and what could have been.
