Excellent on the rise-fall, obsession, the desire for success at any cost. The protagonist Stan represents all this, it could be read as the American dream as strong as to make you rise high as well as make you fall. All this is narrated well , following the whole parable of Stan who makes his way into a small fair and then expands his shows always looking for new earnings despite the warnings of the women Zeena and Molly. The direction is very strict, good construction of the picture and there are really good moments successful like the cult scene of Molly on the chair to generate electricity and the same when she pretends to be a ghost. I understand why Del Toro wants to give his interpretation to the film as there is the melody so dear to the director, the internal conflict of the protagonist who also reminded me a little of Nolan's The Prestige and finally there are religious and spiritualist discussions. Good film which will probably have new life thanks to Del Toro's remake. Read all
