Review of  Balkan Castevet Balkan Castevet
Monolith is a film about guilt, about metabolizing this; the management of the story in some respects is a bit reminiscent of Pontypool in that the protagonist, in fact her name is not mentioned, is a podcast host who does interviews and moves the film forward through listening and her reflections. The story of focuses on the mystery of this dark brick, an object that seems to have powers and of alien origin. Matt Vesely's direction creates a claustrophobic environment for the protagonist, the latter in fact after having "failed" with her podcast in trying to incriminate a subject, finds herself isolated in search of a strong story to be able to narrate. The mystery begins to appear when an anonymous person sends an email from which all the research and the consequences of the story around the brick will start. The cinematography of the film plays on tones very cold, the setting is almost "glacial" there are a lot of grays but also hints of cold blues. The staging is very good and accurate and Veseley in certain circumstances manages to create that almost disturbing atmosphere for the protagonist, a growing obsession. During the interviews, the direction through subjective shots with fluid camera movements, for example in the bathtub sequence, manages to create tension. Overall, the film could have had more atmosphere and above all played more on the obsession but also on the paranormal, the visions to have an even stronger and more constant tension and to make the protagonist uncomfortable. Sensations of unease which however are present as written. During the research the interviewer will also come across her past, the film will place her faced with her feelings of guilt until she is faced with a decision. Whether or not to declare the truth, her guilt, telling this story is therefore interesting to see that when she erases her father's testimony, a copy of him (the protagonist's) will appear. This clearly symbolizes Read all
