Review of  Balkan Castevet Balkan Castevet
Rose Glass directs a pulp film with veins, a non-random term, fantasy, the ditch is immediately framed which evokes Lou's dark past and the place where his father hides his crimes, with a camera movement we first go into the depths of the ditch which then flow into the starry sky thus playing between low and high, descent and ascent, it is no coincidence that a shooting star is shown from the sky which symbolizes the beginning of the story but also the dreams and desires of Lou and Jackie. Through an alternating montage it is the loneliness of both protagonists is shown until their meeting. Lou is a lesbian girl who runs a gym, she hates her father who operates in illegal arms trafficking, her mother has disappeared and the only reason why she doesn't leave the city Christmas is because he wants to try to protect his sister Bet. Jackie also has a traumatic family past, she was adopted and dreams of becoming a bodybuilder, a dream not supported by her family. The film is therefore a suburban story, the alchemy between Lou and Jackie works and Rose Glass does not portray her characters as positive. The dynamic is beautiful where Jackie asks Lou to leave together, why Lou has never moved from her city and the following scene shows the two girls are having lunch together with Beth and the latter's boyfriend, J.J. The direction makes it clear that the reason why Lou doesn't move is Bet, wanting to protect her from J.J. who beats her up, in fact Beth is always shown with bruises and wounds, all of which will then be made explicit both in gestures and words. The love between Lou and Jackie is sincere, the film shows their intimacy however Lou's family situation will degenerate going to involve the two girls and Read all

I recently watched Love Lies Bleeding, and I found it to be a real page-turner. The film dives deep into a tangled mess of deceit and raw emotions, keeping you on edge throughout. The storyline is intricate, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. The cast delivers some impressive performances, adding real depth to their characters, and the cinematography does a great job of ramping up the tension. While it doesn't reinvent the thriller genre, its gripping narrative and well-developed characters make it a must-watch if you enjoy psychological dramas. Read all

Lou (Kristen Stewart) runs a run-down gym in a remote town in New Mexico. Her seedy routine changes when Jackie (Katy O'Brian), a bodybuilder who wants to get to Las Vegas to compete in a competition, arrives to train. A burning passion is born between the two. But the two women will have to deal with Beth (Jena Malone), Lou's sister, and her violent husband J. J. (Dave Franco) and above all with the father of the two girls; Lou Sr. (Ed Harris). Love lies bleeding, Rose Glass's second feature film, is a completely different film from the previous Saint Maude. Both the first was immersed in an autumnal atmosphere, dominated by the grayness of a sad English coastal town, and this is an ultra-pop saraband. Rose Glass boldly mixes different genres together in a film that drips with '80s atmosphere. It is natural to ask ourselves, when faced with two works so different from each other, what the director's true style is. The suspicion we have is that in the new film it weighs, perhaps excessively, the production by A24. The final result in fact seems to respond more to the indie aesthetic built film after film by the production company than to that of Rose Glass' previous work. The most immediate reference are some titles, the most grotesque and excessive ones, by the Coen Brothers. We find ourselves once again in a squalid American province with a story that, as it progresses, piles up corpse upon corpse. From his Rose Glass he gets a practically perfect cast. The painful thinness of Kristen Stewart contrasts with Katy O'Brian's statuesque physique in a role tailored to her muscles. But all the supporting actors are also spot on, starting from the slimy hair of Ed Harris as always extraordinary. Against this background Rose Glass builds a film which continually changes its skin and in which it churns out ideas in spurts Read all
