I could actually imagine what I was getting into, but I lightly expected a more "one the road" journey, but instead "Pinocchio" covered much more of the road. The comparison with "Pinocchio" is not a coincidence. He is a wooden puppet, now human, in the midst of the wickedness of those who are human by birth, but not by heart; in search of answers, with naivety and arrogance. Here is "The Son", human but with a heart of wood (therefore a reverse Pinocchio), forced by events to retrace the road (here the river) in an unaware search for the love that does not has ever known/received. Landscapes that, ..."never a joy": abandonment, dirt, poverty and hunger are the arid context in which a simple story unfolds, made up of a few characters, all well characterized, all extremely "desperate" , without a future. Accompanied (on a solitary journey) by shots and camera movements always attentive to detail, but above all accompanied by an amazing soundtrack by Motta, we arrive at a Blade Runner-style ending; after so much rain and pessimism, a ray of sunshine and a "new hope". Just before the passage expected throughout the film, the confession, arrived via a particularly decisive Deus Ex-machina, perhaps too decisive (it's fine to make the scenes work, but credibility should not be abandoned). Good film, strong message, excellent staged, but in my opinion weak not only in a couple of writing defects, but also in being more fairy tale than novel. Read all

plot

Civilisation is coming to an end. The death of his only relative gives a feral boy the pretext to journey beyond the confines of his home environment; only by doing this will he be able to decipher his father's journal, the most valuable artefact in his legacy. This singular contribution to the post-apocalyptic sci-fi genre tells of a humanity in crisis, while at the same time conveying the adventurous spirit of adolescence.
