Review of  Balkan Castevet Balkan Castevet
Gothic taken from Poe's story directed with taste and skill by the master Poe. The setting, despite the budget not being so high, is excellent, it breathes pure gothic between fog and cobwebs and a photography that plays with warm colors, with a gold in abundance, but rendered in dull, dark tones. There is no shortage of red objects to add bloody tones to the scenes. The actors are all part-time, Vincet Price is magnificent, and the feeling of mystery pervades the entire film which manages to impart atmosphere precisely through the gothic scenarios. Regarding the direction, it is worth mentioning the right timing of the wait, the slow camera movements, the one that follows the traces of blood up to the doorknob is beautiful but the moments of madness and excitement where Corman does not use frenetic editing but rather leaves the frame fixed are also interesting and lets the continuous movements of the actors create the rhythm and agitation. It is impossible not to mention the wonderful dream sequence, where the colors take over with blue and red scenes. In the film, Corman "humanizes" the madness through his actions of the characters and especially seen today in the character of Madeline we can read a female emancipation as throughout the story she must continually submit to her brother's will but also her boyfriend doesn't seem to leave her too much room for decisions. Excellent. Read all
