Review of  Henri Floyd Lynch Henri Floyd Lynch
Holy Motors is an intense journey through the complex relationship between art and the artist, between cinema and man, inextricably linked by a mutual dependence that brings their fate closer together. There are some films that are created to meet the public , others, however, to play with the spectator and dictate their rules. Certainly, the resulting asymmetrical relationship can be annoying and oppressive, but often, with its forcing, it is able to lead us towards unexpected paths, unexplored places that open up new horizons. This seems to be the greatest objective of Holy Motors, a film where cinema is a large living organism that aspires to self-affirmation and yet needs its demiurge: man. The man is Oscar (an exceptional Denis Lavant) who lives the lives of others for a living, an actor who, however, is not allowed to play himself. In other words he does not have an identity, we know nothing about him, we only know that he is eternally other-than-himself. Between one work mission and another, Oscar travels in a limousine used as a dressing room, in which he carefully prepares for his performances. The story is all here, but not in a reductive sense; the history, in fact, is all that of the seventh art that comes to terms with its conditions and its essence, its state and its statute. On the one hand, therefore, with Holy Motors (meta)cinema continually chews itself in a subtle game of references, sometimes internal, now to other films, now to entire cinematographic genres; a real entertainment for the most knowledgeable cinephiles. On the other hand, this playful aspect does not hide the anxiety for the fate of the seventh art: in front of a blind audience, the cinema machine is forced to travel in vain, since there is no beauty in the eye of those who do not look. Deprived of its aesthetic nature, Read all

plot

We follow 24 hours in the life of a being moving from life to life like a cold and solitary assassin moving from hit to hit. In each of these interwoven lives, the being possesses an entirely distinct identity: sometimes a man, sometimes a woman, sometimes youthful, sometimes old. By turns murderer, beggar, company chairman, monstrous creature, worker, family man.
