Review of  Emiliano Baglio Emiliano Baglio
2006, Mel Gibson is stopped for speeding and reacts with a series of racist and anti-Semitic insults; it will only be the first of a series of bad episodes. Hollywood reacts by banning the actor despite the billions in earnings from his films. Our man retires, tries to win his battle against alcoholism and participates in very few films until he comes across the true story of Desmond T. Doss. Doss, a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Christian Church, refused to take up a rifle and yet, despite this, he enlisted as a volunteer in the army in April 1942, became a military rescuer and was decorated with the medal of honor for having saved the lives of 75 soldiers without firing a single shot. His story seems written specifically to be brought to the screen by Gibson; a hero faithful to his Christian ideals, forced to deal with a hostile society that will come to try him for high treason and who will redeem himself by saving human lives in a scenario of death and destruction. Elements that we find in most of Gibson's directions starting from the very famous The Passion of the Christ. Probably the identification between the director and Doss is one of the main elements that make Hacksaw Ridge a great film. Once again Mel Gibson decides to take the path of ruthless realism and a raw and brutal representation of reality, regardless of the accusations leveled at his films of being too violent. The spectator is literally thrown into the mud and guts of the Second World War among torn bodies that are burned alive by soldiers. The entire second part of Hacksaw Ridge is a real cinema lesson given to many young directors who are obsessed with handheld cameras. Mel Gibson, on the other hand, directs a film with a sure and steady hand Read all
