Joko Anwar is the flagship of modern Indonesian horror, this latest film investigates the religious mystery, the protagonist Sita wants to film the torture of the body and soul of the deceased so she descends into the underground tombs to demonstrate that in reality what she says religion is false. Anwar's direction is familiar with the times of horror, there are camera movements and sequence shots that fuel and often uses the jump scare, some constructed, others instead with a not too happy rendering. The rhythm of the The film is not always fast-paced, the whole thing probably lasts a little too long and some moments such as when the world seems to go into religious panic are little explored, I presume this is due to the not so high budget, in fact several times the shot does not widen , we remain very focused on the characters. However, there is no shortage of more inspired moments where the photography has its beautiful rendering, such as the scene in red at the end in the basement of the tomb. There are also good scenes of blood, the one with the washing machine probably the best with the the old woman's face torn away and the ending where all the torture that Sati fears to see is shown. It is a type of horror that often harks back to Wan's cinema, where Anwar knows how to create scenes of tension but sometimes in showing the horror goes too far with jump scares but still builds convincing motivations for Sati's character.
