Godzilla King of the Monster has highly evocative images, Dougherty manages to give emphasis and power to the images creating a tale that is both mythological and apocalyptic. Mark sees his son die due to Godzilla's attack in 2014, he hates kaiju and in particular his own Big G, his is therefore a story of redemption. Dougherty's directorial choices are functional, taken from the imagery already created by Edwards, to show the attacks aimed at saving Godzilla from the point of view of Mark who sees firsthand how the great kaiju is not evil in itself and indeed a co-existence and collaboration is possible. However, the human component leaves enough to be desired, the villain Alan Joahn is poorly developed and quite caricatural, he wants to awaken the kaiju to rebalance the world, but his presence is not of great contribution to the film. The same aspect applies to the soldiers and some members of the Monarch who appear in the background. The Russel family, Mark, his wife Emma and his daughter Maddie represent the core of the human part of the film. Destabilized by Andrew's death, the family is pieces, Mark runs away while Emma collaborates with Alan Jonah, here there is no in-depth analysis between Emma and Maddie, the latter agrees to follow her mother despite the crazy plan and her daughter's education is only said in words and not shown, so the point from Maddie's point of view, why she follows her mother, what she thinks of the plan is not shown, while instead Maddie's gaze on everything will be crucial when she understands that the vision Emma and Alan have is not what she expected.
