Review of  Balkan Castevet Balkan Castevet
Japanese slasher made at the end of the 80s, very bloody and well directed by Toshiharu Ikeda who stages a horror where the tape negatives, the flashes, the monitors depict another possible version of the self, another soul where therefore the bodies people's bodies represent shells, so what you watch on TV is another expression of the individual himself. A film which is therefore well ahead of its time, especially in relation to the world of social media today, Ikeda shows the fascination for the star, for the TV presenter of a horror program and the insistence of the shots on the girl's monitors, Nami represents the two possible souls, the real one is the one who appears on the screen. All this discussion is centered in that the villain, Hideki, lives inside the body of the brother. In addition to the interesting interpretations, the film works as a slasher and as horror itself, the killings are diversified and creative, beams that pass through bodies, hangings, severed heads, there is a lot of blood and a lot of violence which increase the scope and the impact of the film. The staging is very good as is the photography, the former military base surrounded by gloomy blues creates an atmosphere, the latter appears to be dark and distressing. There is good taste in the construction of the shots, excellent for example the exhaust fumes that fuel the atmosphere and Ikeda has several flashes and you find remarkable for example the subjective shots of Hideki (through his brother's body) framed as if they were negatives of a tape and the wonderful scene of the monitors with the friend of Nami imprinted on television asking for help. The time management is also notable, the direction knows when to accelerate and when to give breathing space. By the way, the sequence is excellent, without cuts to editing, when Nami gets into the car, drinks a can of (I presume) beer, fixes her hair and then gets out of the car, the film here Read all
