The Ecuadorian Sebastian Cordero had attracted attention for “Cronicas” (2004) but when all traces of him had been completely lost, in 2013 he returned to the limelight with an American production entitled “Europa Report”. Even before talking about the plot, it is necessary to say what is really special about this film and to do so it is necessary to say what the SFFA (Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association) is: it is an American association of Science Fiction and Fantasy writers/screenwriters which has the task of promote the activity of writers also in a scientific sense. “Europa Report” is nominated by the SFFA as the most realistically scientific film produced that year (even if it will then be Cuaron's “Gravity” that takes the final prize) and in fact the vision is striking for its precision and details that are difficult to see in a science fiction film. The plot tells of a mission and to be precise the film starts from the end, when the mission is finished. Introduction: for those who don't know Europa is one of Jupiter's moons whose surface is totally frozen but which presumably, at the depth of a few kilometers away, liquid water could be found, making it the ideal environment for the birth of some form of life. Europa Ventures (a sort of current Space X) organizes a private mission to one of Jupiter's moons, Europa, in search of new life forms. After six months of the mission, an event occurs that causes the death of one of the crew members but, despite this, the mission continues and after about twenty months the astronauts finally land on the frozen moon.
