any reference to existing people or actual events WOULD be purely coincidental of  Beatrice Bianchini Beatrice Bianchini
It's a sin to think badly of others but you often guess ( Giulio Andreotti) Bellocchio starts from the end proposing a different outcome from the news, so as not to give rise to misunderstandings. His umpteenth proposal of the Moro kidnapping, this time is clear: if the parliamentarian, statesman, professor of law had been released by the red brigades he would have resigned from the DC with a clear and unequivocal speech. Two parties divided into three points of view: the political one public, studded with secrets, mistrust, irresponsibility, more or less voluntary and treacherous non-compliance; the familiar, sober, intimate, private one; that of the red brigades with the choices, the events, the internal misunderstandings, the relationship with the kidnapped, between the criminality of the political and revolutionary times and the respect for dignity and faith. The section dedicated to the Pope, then Paul VI together with the figure of Moro's wife through which the profiles and responsibilities of colleagues, friends/enemies/indifferent to the human aspect of the case clearly emerge, to the advantage of the unspeakable and unacceptable openness of the DC parliamentarian to 33% of the communist electorate, they are inevitably descriptive of everything that happened in those months although "any reference to existing people or actual events" would be "purely coincidental". Six episodes for TV, at the cinema, first part from 18 May, second from 9 June 2022. One impeccable narration of troubled years, where the exploitation of the facts exceeds their criminality. On March 16th, the very day of the installation of a government supported by the communist party of which the president of the DC was the main supporter in the name of Catholic democracy presumptuously "naive", Aldo Moro is kidnapped and, after 50 days of imprisonment, amid requests, negotiations and misdeeds, he is killed "although the truly revolutionary gesture would have been to free him" at least according to Bellocchio's Faranda. Review of  Diego Cineriflessi Diego Cineriflessi
After recounting an enormous private loss with unclear implications in the touching documentary Marx Can Wait, Bellocchio turns his gaze towards the most important and mysterious national loss, the Moro case in this enormous work born as a television series, but released to the cinema in two splendid acts. Thus was born Esterno notte, an opera built in pincer fashion. With the first and last chapters reconstructing the story we all know by meticulously recounting the kidnapping and discovery of the body. In between four tranches de vie that delve into the lives and positions of Cossiga (the State) Paul VI (the Church) Adriana Faranda (the Red Brigades) and his wife Nora (the family). It is precisely these parts, more creative and imaginative, to capture. Bellocchio alternates sensational dialogues between the protagonists (how can we forget Paul VI's phone call to his priest advisor or that of Nora Moro to the wife of a dead policeman in the escort?) with impactful dreamlike inserts. He creates a dark and claustrophobic atmosphere that leads us character after character towards the inevitable in a tightening spiral. The transfiguration of the character into a new Jesus Christ sacrificed on the altar of the homeland is reiterated several times since the choice of posters. The cast is led by Gifuni in a truly remarkable subtraction performance. Margherita Buy inspired like few other times during the last films in the role of his wife she reaches her highest acting levels. However, the entire technical cast shines, starting with a photography based on cold and alienating colors that acts in synergy with Bellocchio's surgical direction. A thrilling technical mix. A monumental work by one of the great senators of Italian cinema, Outside Night is a film not to be missed, excellent in both form and content.
