Ronit (Weisz), daughter of the chief rabbi of the Orthodox Jewish community in London, returns from New York where she has lived for a long time, to attend her father's funeral. To welcome her she finds Dovid (Nivola), a Torah scholar and husband of Esti (McAdams), her friend. Ronit and Esti, attracted to each other, were at the center of a scandal in the past, which shook the community and this attraction seems not to have subsided. A raw film, without frills, where the protagonist is the story of love between the two women, but above all it is the Jewish community, so far from the way of life we know, with its contradictions, its rigid rules, its closure towards new horizons or new ways of living life and faith. For these reasons, it is easy to understand that the story between the two will be tormented, pervaded by a sense of guilt, judgment, disapproval. Personally, I think it was not easy to interpret a film with such a delicate subject, Rachel McAdams, fantastic actress, he truly gives us a poignant but strong performance at the same time, but the entire cast deserves to be celebrated.
