Glowing ice of  Roberto Flauto Roberto Flauto
Simply wonderful. A true love story. An impressive documentary. She won me over on all fronts. An authentic journey through (and of) time. That is: cinema. A return to the surface, in every sense. A story of History. A re-emergence of beats buried in the ice. Dawson City tells the story of the power of cinema, the poetic strength of film, a fruitful machine generating worlds. Cinema is and the explosive from which it was born remains. He is not the creator of beauty: but the bomb disposal expert. In Dawson City there is all this. It is a declaration of love, a painstaking work of reconstruction, an elegy, a project, a testament and a hymn: all this, all together. I loved the superimposition of those frames, of those very short scenes, which speak of a dead, buried and resurrected world. That incessant soundtrack, which is actually a very long sound, a composition of harmonious noises that accompanies the burning of these old films. Dawson City is the story of a city, of a world, of our world that is being born. Gold, the frontier, the metropolitan city, the factory, the cinema, the war: how much I love the history between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Cinema was something different from what it will become, but it was already itself. It was already a favorite place for our stories. And there is nothing that gets lost, that really disappears, because even absence makes noise, silence echoes, and everything becomes narration. In the depths of the ice extraordinary stories happen. The stories that we are. And we are everything and everything is us. Fire and ice. Buried tales and endless stories. Dawson City, after all, reminds us that time exists, that we are ephemeral, transient, yet immortal. Fire after fire, we rise again. We continue inexorably in our production of ghosts: stories that are nothing else. Stories, narratives. And no matter how much we destroy it, our heart will continue to resurface Read all

plot

The true history of a collection of some 500 films dating from 1910s to 1920s, which were lost for over 50 years until being discovered buried in a sub-arctic swimming pool deep in the Yukon Territory, in Dawson City, located about 350 miles south of the Arctic Circle.
