Interesting, but of  Diego Cineriflessi Diego Cineriflessi
Jessica Hausner revealed herself to the world with her feature film Lourdes, completely shot in the most famous Christian sanctuary in the world. Since then, reflection on faith, of whatever nature, has never abandoned it. Club zero reflects on the strength of the mind, of conviction and in a more religious sense of faith. What can you do if you have faith in something? Can the boundaries imposed by society and science be overcome? When you espouse certain beliefs, however, you become part of a sect or you can dream of being part of an exclusive club and unfortunately isolation never leads to anything good. With precise and surgical direction that pigeonholes the young followers worse than the teacher who teaches them, Hausner tries to hypnotize the viewer. Like barkers she tries to capture attention and minds with style rather than words. Here scenography and photography aimed at fascinating become very important, but above all an alienating but strongly accentuating soundtrack stands out. In the long run, however, the viewer awakens from the spell of the beautiful aesthetic side and the question of where Hausner ultimately wanted to end up arises. Objectively, however, it seems that the lock does not live up to the premises and Club Zero shuts down without too much conviction. A work with great promise, which was in competition at the last Cannes Film Festival. However, Jessica Hausner's cinema comes ever more dangerously close to that of Wes Anderson, where her aestheticism reigns supreme. However, it remains a work to be seen. Read all
Review of  Emiliano Baglio Emiliano Baglio
In her latest film, Club Zero, the Austrian director Jessica Hausner moves on precise and rigid aesthetic coordinates that can, legitimately, also be repelling. Club Zero is built mostly on fixed shots, the only camera movements are to widen the picture, to the point of giving an overall vision of the environment or narrowing in on the individual character. Each shot is rigidly organized from a geometric point of view. Great attention is given to the colours, starting with the uniforms of the schools where the story is set , characterized by purple socks and yellow t-shirts; the same goes for the scenography; the environments of Club zero all seem to come out of design magazines. The result is an icy and cold film that perfectly conveys the idea of an aseptic environment. After all, we are in an area of opulence and wealth, an exclusive private school for rich scions of the upper middle class. It is here that Miss Novak (Mia Wasikowska) ends up, called by her parents' college to teach conscious nutrition. A group of kids will gather around her who will be increasingly fascinated by both the teacher's personality and her her theories. By the time anyone realizes what is really happening, it will be too late. Jessica Hausner, with a rigorous and geometric film, hits multiple targets at the same time. First of all, she exposes the mechanisms of manipulation of the masses. Miss Novak's students are literally plagiarized by their teacher while their families are completely absent. It almost makes you angry to see the obtuseness of these parents who will go so far as to kick out the teacher not for what she is doing but for having gone to the opera with one of the kids. The only what matters, in such a social context, is appearance. At the same time the film points the finger, even in a deeply ironic way, both at nutrition and at the contrast between one's beliefs and science. The final result is a film which, depending on the viewer's predisposition, can be profound Read all
