In 2009, a small, big event happened: the first Swiss science fiction production was created. The director Ivan Engler, who is also the author of the screenplay and the producer, assisted by his colleague Ralph Etter, makes a decidedly good film which, if he had been able to count on widespread distribution worldwide, could have achieved considerable success at the box office. Unfortunately, the Swiss film company Atlantis Pictures Ltd did not have an adequate budget for marketing and distribution and therefore the film was shown in few theatres. The story is definitely interesting and the SFX are acceptable for a European production: we are in 2267 and the Earth has become practically uninhabitable due to climate change and pollution. Earth's population has moved to various space stations orbiting the planet and even to more remote places. Although these "arks" are, for the moment, guaranteeing the survival of the human species, the level of liveability is decidedly poor: they are overcrowded and people are forced to live in very close contact with each other and in this way epidemics break out and they spread very quickly causing thousands of victims in each station. It is clear that this space station solution cannot last much longer and in fact explorers belonging to a multinational have discovered a planet, Rhea, which is practically the pristine copy of the Earth. The objective is therefore, year after year, to transfer the population to the new home but to go to Rhea a lot of money is needed that the vast majority of the population will never be able to earn. The story of CARGO takes place on rusty space-freighter KASSANDRA on its way to Station 42. The young medic LAURA is the only one awake on board while the rest of the crew lies frozen in hibernation sleep. In 4 months will Laura's shift be over.
