Junta Yamaguchi can be defined as the director "who directs Time"; in fact the talented Japanese filmmaker (not yet forty years old) has a particular predilection for temporal themes, making two extremely interesting films, this one "Beyond two infinite minutes", shot in the midst of the pandemic in 2020 and the subsequent "River" in 2023 which will be subject of a future review. With “Beyond the infinite Two Minutes” it won all the festivals in which the film was presented: in 2021 it won the Fantafestival of Rome, the Fantasia Film Festival of Montreal, the Film Club's The Lost Weekend of the famous American cinema chain, Nippon Connection Japanese Festival in Frankfurt and the Fantasy Filmfest which takes place in seven German cities, from Berlin to Stuttgart, from Cologne to Nuremberg. The film can be defined as a medium-length film (it lasts about 70 minutes) but, like the much better known " One Cut of the Dead”, turns out to be a gem of intelligent and absolutely non-trivial writing. With a very tight budget (shot in just ten days with very few technicians), a handful of actors (including Kazunari Tosa who some will remember from “Alice in Borderland”) and practically only two locations, the film is based on an absolutely brilliant scientific-temporal construct. Like most films based on Time, here too there is a loop but this time there is a small novelty...
