Review of  Henri Floyd Lynch Henri Floyd Lynch
Antichrist tells the story of two spouses, whose name we will never know, but who we can call He (Willem Dafoe) and She (Charlotte Gainsbourg). One day, while they are having sex, their only son loses his life; an avoidable tragedy, if only they hadn't indulged in so much lust. She, in particular, is tormented by feelings of guilt and her husband, a psychotherapist, decides to take her into treatment, despite being aware of violating the code of ethics of her profession. The two go to their house in the woods, where she tries to face her fears, especially related to the alleged evil of nature. Thus begins a tense confrontation that leads the couple to get involved, pushing themselves well beyond their psychophysical limits. If the film's plot is simple, navigating the symbolism and allegories that populate it is much more complex. Antichrist, in fact, paints a gloomy cosmos where Christianity and paganism intertwine to face that antagonistic God who, starting from the age of enlightenment, aims to replace them: rational knowledge. This is opposed by impulses and desires, fueled by atavistic bestial instincts that annihilate and tend towards chaos, first and foremost sex. Therefore, "nature is the church of Satan", as you state during the film, and it, then, becomes Nature with a capital "n". It follows that humanity experiences a heartbreaking contrast: on the one hand it is the fruit of God's benevolent love, on the other it must submit to the law of Nature in which it lives. It is the eternal distinction between the transcendent and the immanent, between faith and reason. In similar circumstances, the only escape route for man is to be able to control the prescriptions of Nature through detached reason, that is, through rationality, which however is a rejection of the flesh, of pathos, of feeling, but also a denial of the self. , as a process Read all
