Sharp and irreverent satire of

A simply wonderful film. I looked at it again with great pleasure after so many years. It's a real shame that Kevin Spacey, one of the best actors ever, and who here gave a brilliant and masterful acting performance, left the scene due to the scandals that involved him. American Beauty is an original, deeply shocking and disturbing film about the repressed anger and frustration that crawls beneath the apparent beauty of American society. A repressed anger and frustration that crawls underground and too often erupts dramatically (and I am referring to the too frequent episodes in which too many innocent people lose their lives). But this film is not dramatic, on the contrary. It's a sharp and irreverent satire that makes it more of an absurd black comedy. An excellent directorial performance by Sam Mendes in his debut.
