Review of  Balkan Castevet Balkan Castevet
Adalynn is a film that plays on the real, not real through the protagonist character, Adalynn precisely, who having had to have a forced abortion for her first child Miles will now have to manage a new motherhood with the newborn Elizabeth. Adalynn is afraid of reliving the same story he had with Miles, he develops obsessions, mania for extreme cleanliness and hyper-precision in where to place objects and everything, he will begin to imagine tragic events, voices of his missing son, seeing apparitions and so on. The problem of the film and of the direction of Jacob Byrd is that the staging is not the best, there is little visual strength, therefore in moments of tension the right atmosphere is not created and everything is a bit bland. Already in the opening credits you can see a certain 90s video clip style, in terms of visual rendering, this effect also comes out later, for example in the sequence of the house all messy and upside down with these effects trying to alienate to play on the real effect, not real but precisely with a not good rendering. There are individual scenes that demonstrate not too much attention to the staging, for example when Bill, Aladynn's husband, is at the bar with that vase of flowers on the counter which appears "forced" as a presence placed there to "beautify" the shot which otherwise would have been too bare but overall the single picture is not a nice sight. In the film there is a shot where the camera is placed inside the refrigerator, now, I am always inclined towards the new, experimenting and also "subvert" the classic rules of cinema, however when it is done with knowledge. In this case the director always wants to give an alienating effect but this almost becomes a sort of subjective of the refrigerator that is out of place, as this cannot have its own point of view, it is an object it is not Read all
