Now I really don't know what to write about the films seen in theaters this year. And about Italian cinema. Arminuta is yet another jewel in a now long series that still threatens to never end (if I think about the upcoming visions of Sorrentino and Atlantide ).And if it is true that, apart from Freaks Out, very often Italian cinema does not "risk" the genre by relying on realism (of which we are masters), it is also true that more and more, even in this realistic framework, we witness to "superior" works and directions, those that don't limit themselves to doing their homework by showing/telling things (let's be clear, there are wonderful films that do just this eh) but that know how to enhance the photography, move the camera, have small moments of magical realism that make this neo-neorealist cinema something more, at least in intent. If in "A Chiara" Carpignano managed simply with sequence shots with a hypnotic atmosphere to pierce the sense of perceived reality, if in "Il Buco" Frammartino was able to simply frame a falling burnt sheet of paper or pan a map to give us almost "magical" sensations, even in this beautiful L'Arminuta we often have the sensation of going into another dimension without the signifier leaving the realism in the slightest. .A sequence like that of the carousel (heart attack) is something more than what is only in the image shown, it is a world, it is a mood, it is a dream, it is a symbol. The little girl (that little girl whose name we will never know but only her social and dramaturgical role, that of the "returned girl") flutters in the air, happy, trying to grab the prize.
