An impossible love that is incredible

Interesting short from 2013 by Filippo Santaniello and directed by Giuseppe Peronace, with the contribution of Sergio Stivaletti to the special effects.

The screenplay appears very simple, but inserts a particular feature within it that makes the difference. Mistrust, because all too frequently young women don't have it, thus very often ending up in big trouble. This is the case of Rita, a girl who goes to the studio of Claudio, a sneaky and slimy photographer. Short flashbacks anticipate what has already been painted in the viewer's mind: tragedy is around the corner, and all hope dies.

Something strange is bound to happen, however. In that place where violence reigns supreme, a good soul flutters. A fly, yes, just a fly, an annoying insect, and yet, equipped with a heart, which cannot feel indifference in the face of so much pain. And it is the voice of the sarcophagus that narrates the story, and wants to make us reflect on how, in reality, the most disgusting beast is man himself. Man, yes, the one who should represent evolution, while instead, often, he turns out to be a scoundrel bastard. The dipteran will be fundamental in the evolution of the story.

Personally, I found the idea of letting a tear fall from the insect's eye while he will find himself in the bathroom, face to face with the antagonist, the one who enjoys torturing the martyr with whom Moschina is in love.

The serial killer is just the right amount of hate, the direction maintains a good pace, and Francesco Bonomo's photography is well-curated and evocative. The interpretations of Gianluca Cortese and Alessandra Bellini are convincing, both are well immersed in their roles, but, first of all, that of the little creature infatuated with the poor tortured victim stands out. Erik Tonelli's voice introduces, explains, and leads to the inevitable reflection: too often the passion that nestles in a dry heart is saturated with sadistic brutality and the desire to inflict pain. Will that little beast be able to save her beloved? I don't like to give spoilers, if I've made you curious, all you have to do is watch.
