Sicily!

(Film, 1999)

Sicily!

Non-acting; non-actors; not present. Sicily! it is the stylistic negation of cinema: dialogues that constantly refer to another/elsewhere, not acted by a cast of non-professional actors deprived of any facial expression, any vocal intonation (a bit like in the trashy "masterpiece" Tre carrigne in Mapasso). Yet, despite this poetics of negation, so to speak, the film by the Straub-Huillet couple is magnetic and bewitching.
