The Others is one of my all-time favorite horror films.  First off, this isn't your typical ghost story. Nicole Kidman stars as Grace Stewart, who moves into a mansion with her two light-sensitive children after World War II. As she hires three servants, eerie events lead her to suspect her home is haunted. Filmed in the Channel Islands, Spain, England, and New York, the movie captures the post-WWII atmosphere. Directed by Alejandro Amenábar, it features unexpected twists and a suspenseful character, Mrs. Bertha Mills, played by Fionnula Flanagan.  It features  a compelling plot, subtlety, and holds back key information until the end, with every detail contributing to the story. Though, some plot threads may confuse viewers, Kidman's captivating performance makes the film stand out among predictable ghost stories. I recommend watching it twice to fully appreciate its nuances, as you'll likely miss many elements on the first viewing, which makes a second watch even more rewarding.
